Welcome one and all!
Integrated education will be the main focus in my classroom because I believe that students should be taught content across all academic areas with an emphasis in character development in order to emotionally connect them to what they are learning. The hope is that by teaching in this way my students will have a positive impact on their community and continue that into the world around them.
I will ensure to implement meaningful content by showing sincere interest in my students’ success so that they become engaged in learning. I will ask students’ input through surveys to help determine the big ideas relevant to them. I don’t intent to go into a classroom and solely focus on teaching to test. This is detrimental to students and inefficient because it focuses on the quantity of content instead of the quality of content. Since there are many overlapping themes in academic areas I will focus of deeper understanding of content by allowing students to input their opinions and choosing content related to the community I teach in. I am inviting students to connect to their learning on an emotional and personal level.
My students will self-reflect on their decisions and processes because I expect them to own their education and be active learners. Students need to use their personal experiences and their academic learning to help them speculate, predict, synthesis and make judgments about topics like math and science. This will be done by having an inquiry based classroom so my students can find their own way to an answer. I want them to not only recall what they’ve learned but also be able to transfer these skills and apply them to real life situations. I want to encourage high—order thinking skill to help students move from Bloom’s lower level of remembering knowledge to actually applying and creating solutions to real world problems. Once students see the impact they can have on the world they will begin to discover themselves and the traits they need to become agents of change.
I intent to implement Full—Circle Learning into my teaching to help inspire a time of personal transformation. I hope to introduce character traits such as respect, kindness, empathy, forgiveness and honesty in hopes that the lessons lead to self—evaluation and self—regulation, so students can realize that they need to take control of certain behaviors in order to develop character traits they wish to possess. By focusing on the whole student, teachers instill each student with a need to cultivate an altruistic behavior so they can find a purpose in life. I will guide my students to organize and create service learning projects so they can grow into lifelong servers for humanity because they will start to see the importance of their role in society.
I need to model what I want my students to do. I need to be an agent of change for the benefit of not just my students but society as well.
Know that I commit to the following:
I will be flexible by allowing input by my students, parents and colleagues during the good and bad moments.
I will build relationships with my students to encourage an environment where we are all enthusiastic about learning.
I look forward to being your teacher. I hope we become a great partnership with one goal in mind...YOUR SUCCESS!
